I’m on God’s timetable not my own. Gratefulness increases faith because we see what we take for granted as gifts from God. This allows us to see what He’s doing for us and personally gives me hope that He’ll answer my prayers. I hope being grateful increases your faith for God to do more in your life. So when I’m feeling down, I think of another five amazing reasons to be grateful.
This has been one of the most trying times of my life. I have three roommates and one of them believes someone in the room is peeing on her head. She called the police and directly accused the roommates that were present which includes myself of peeing on her head. It has been stressful to realize the circumstances that I’m in and wish that I’m in better circumstances. However, thinking that way has not empowered me. Being grateful does empower me. My hope is that it empower you as well. See reasons to be grateful below!
A Job
I have a job. This job is currently allowing me to have shelter, clothing, and food. Without this job, I would be on the streets. I know God wants me at this job for the time being. I hope to learn what He would like me to learn. A job may not be a dream job but there are many things you can learn such as speaking with people, team work, taking pride in the little that you have so that you can eventually handle the responsibility of something bigger, and business acumen.
Nature
In the middle of trusting God, I like to take walks and enjoy the sunset usually. Seeing the sunset, helps me to see God’s artistry. His works are truly beautiful. Each day especially with the changing seasons, the sunsets are different. I’ve see the blue sky transition into yellow then orange. I’ve seen blues and pinks come together as well. When I see nature especially the sunset, I see God wanting us to enjoy the beauty of this earth.
Friendships to be Grateful For
Friends, the real ones. I have a friend who wouldn’t leave no matter how much I feel like I’m undeserving of friends. But that stems from having superficial thinking. By the grace of God, my friends aren’t like that. One friend is always telling me to “Keep your head up.” and another is extremely supportive as well. I am blessed to have these two friends in my life.
Another friend, I’m blessed to have is Jesus Christ. Proverbs 18:24 Jesus Christ is closer than a brother. John 15:13 There is no greater love than this -that a man should lay down his life for his friends. Sometimes, when I wish things were different I speak to Jesus as He’s a brother of mine/a friend of mine and it calms my spirit. The goal now is to do this more often.
Family
Whether is the family you’re born into or the family you choose, having a family is another reason to be grateful. Family is there to share in joy, provide guidance and safety, nurture, and encourage you. Some people may come from homes where their family is toxic or life circumstances have led to people being the sole survivor of their family. I encourage you to 1) rely on yourself, support yourself, and empower yourself and 2) know you’re never truly alone because of Holy Spirit.
Last year I loss my mother and I had regrets about not being able to financially take care of her the way that I wanted to but God knows what’s best. I was able to be with her the last month of her life. So when I miss her, I think about our last month together. I’m also reminded of God being a mother to the motherless. That exact wording is not found in the bible but God is a Father to the fatherless and is there to guide, nurture, empower, and encourage all of us.
Salvation
What is salvation? Salvation is restoration of a relationship with God our Holy Father through His son Jesus Christ by saving us from sin and death. Without salvation, I would have no hope of restoration. I would have no hope for things to improve in my life. But because I believe that Jesus took on the burden of my sins, died for the sins of everyone, and defeated the grave by rising up three days after his death, I know there’s hope. The goal is to meditate on what Jesus Christ did for me instead of my problems. By doing this, I’m better able to handle my problems because they don’t seem so large.
Reasons to be Grateful
- Having a job
- Nature
- Having friends, including Jesus Christ
- Family, God is father to the fatherless and a mother to the motherless, children, nieces, nephews,
- The gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
