Proverbs 3: 5-6 NLT -Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do (prayer), and he will show you which path to take.
Current Circumstances
Many times people in life feel lost and I’d be lying to you if I said, “I don’t feel the same way.” Life can be very difficult at times. There has been lost of a loved one, a change in a career, or the end of a dream. Then you have to determine which direction is best to go wanting the end result to be better than your current one.
The above scripture reminds us to trust God. Trust God, when we don’t like what we’re going through, to trust the Lord of Angels Armies when it seems like our prayers are not being answered or seems as if He has left. It’s a good thing when you go to church or listen online or stream church. However, it’s an even better thing to be in constantly communication with the Lord; though prayer. Prayer allows us to build a one-on-one relationship with God. It allows us to bring God into our problems, to move mountains (problems), and to seek His wisdom and counsel.
What is a Prayer Life
A prayer life is when we diligently seek the Lord through prayer on a consistent basis. In this life, we are to never stop praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT). Jesus would often go in isolation to spend time alone with the Father for prayer, direction, and wisdom. Having a prayer life is something that is often done daily despite having a busy schedule.
When you dedicate time with the Lord even for a few minutes, you’re showing Him His importance in your life. Many people believe that you need to spend a long time in prayer and reading the bible but nothing could be further from the truth. God wants you. He wants you to worship Him, serve Him, and most importantly He wants your heart.
What having a prayer life has done for me.
Increasing prayer in my life has given me peace. Peace that I otherwise would not have. I cannot do things in my own strength after a dreams have changed/died and I no longer know what to do except for to keep going. Everyday, I keep going by God’s incredible grace. I pray that one day all of this makes sense.
I had anxiety. The reason why I say had anxiety is because I no longer experience anxiety despite the problems I face. The reason why I don’t have anxiety is because of my prayer life. I leave my mountains in His hands.
How to Pray
The very first thing to do when praying to God is to worship Him. This is something, I’m working on improving in my prayer life. What I’ll do is listen to worship music and sing along. Worshiping the Lord before prayer shows gratitude for His existence, that you believe He does exist, and that He is able to do ALL things that are necessary to perfect His will on Earth.
Next, I thank the Lord for what He has done in my life. If you’re having trouble thinking of some things to be grateful for check out my two blog posts here: Top 5 Amazing Reasons to be Grateful and Top 5 more Amazing Reasons to be Grateful -Part 2.
Afterwards, I repent (expressing regret or remorse for one’s action(s)/sin) for sins that you have committed knowingly and unknowingly
Then, I pray for what I need or want.
Finally, I thank Him again for all that He has done for me. Doing this step, reminds me of how good God has been in the past, how He’s good to me now, and gives me hope that He’ll be good to me in the future.
I hope this blog post, has helped you consider to pray more in life; leading to a dedicated prayer life over time.
Sincerely,
Adeola
